An analysis of archival work in the second half of the 18th century and its significance for archival science and scientific thinking in the period
In my presentation I want to determine the scientific importance of archival work in the second half of the 18th century and its relevance for archival science today. I will take the French archivist Pierre Camille Lemoine (1823-1780) as an example and hope to prove why he was an important archivist. Further I will tell something about his archival theory and whether we can find traces of this theory in 18th century filing systems. Finally I will treat the question whether Lemoine's work reflects 18th century scientific thinking. In the conclusion I intend to show why this knowledge is important for archival science today.
